Here at Strategic Robotic Systems (SRS), we are proudly a small, dynamic engineering company that designs and manufactures sophisticated underwater robotic systems. Our collaborative ethos has helped built systems that are currently used by sectors including the military, scientific institutions, and commercial agencies.

Responsibilities

About the role and you: 

 

The CFO is a hands-on, roll up your sleeves, leader who enjoys a fast-paced environment with a keen eye towards developing and communicating a comprehensive understanding of the financial metrics that drive our business.  The CFO is a key member of the SRS management team, reporting to the CEO with dotted line responsibility to the General Oceans (Group) CFOThis role is responsible for all aspects of accounting, finance, payroll, inventory control, information technology and US statutory filings.  This role is further responsible for providing subject matter expertise to team members, continuous improvement of financial processes and building, inspiring, managing and developing our finance team.  This position is based on-site in our San Diego, CA facility.

Salary level of $180 to $220k

 

 

What we are looking for in you: 

 

We are looking for a driven and ambitious leader to join our management team, with a proven track record of effectively collaborating across culturally diverse teams and who demonstrates traits that include curiosity, critical thinking, ability to prioritize through ambiguity and an enthusiasm for change. 

 

  • A Bachelor’s in accounting is required, with a CPA certification being preferred; an MBA would be a plus. 
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop a small team including purchasing, accounting, and production planning. 
  • Experience with general ledger and financial accounting, as well as accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, credit/collections, customer invoicing and financial reporting. 
  • Experience in information technology management, file backups and basic security measures. Familiarity with FISMA, FAR 52.204-21, DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST 800-171 is a plus. 
  • Experience with preparing for, and management of, external audits/auditors including DCAA & Outside CPA firms. 
  • Experience in the creation, preparation, review, and presentation of all financial reports. 
  • Experience building financial models and Discounted Cash Flows. 
  • Experience in monitoring financial processes in accordance with US GAAP standards on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. 
  • Experience with US DoD Program finance & reporting is a plus. 
  • Experience with managing tax issues. 
  • Experience overseeing an AP department, approving payables, signing checks, and authorizing wire and ACH transfers. 
  • Experience with reporting monthly consolidations and intercompany purchases/sales to a parent organization. 
  • Oversight experience with cash management and cash flow planning with a parent organization.   
  • Proficiency with financial accounting systems; in particular, Intuit QuickBooks. 
  • Operational reporting to a CEO and other managers as necessary and appropriate. 
  • Collaboration with management in regular team meetings and strategy sessions to develop and meet company goals.   
  • Conveying expertise and guidance on financial considerations and perspectives for development of overall organizational strategy. 
  • Proven ability to assist in cost accounting and margin management. 
  • Proven ability to assist in preparation of forecasts, budgets, and business plans. 
  • Development of monthly departmental goals, quarterly strategic objectives, and key performance indicators in partnership with management. 
  • Development and coordination of relationships with lending/financial institutions. 
  • Development and implementation of organizational systems to ensure accurate and reliable costing practices. 
  • Development and maintenance of all necessary accounting policies and systems, including general ledger and financial reporting. 
  • Ensure that records are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. 
  • Spearhead interdepartmental cooperation and drive initiatives that enhance our tools. 
  • Act as a financial advisor on any contracts into which the company may enter. 

 

SRS is part of the larger General Oceans Group which in turn is preparing for a listing on the Norwegian Stock exchange. Other than the key points above it is important that group reporting deadlines are metGroup reporting is in accordance with IFRS that will require separate monthly reporting schedules from subsidiaries to bridge the US GAAP gap.
